Lizzie King

Wetlands/Floodlands was inititally performed at Sounding Water an unfurling durational gathering of sound, image, and voice that took place at Pink in Stockport 17th October, 2025. Presented through a spatial audio and visual performance it brought together works by Lizzie King, Fiona Brehony, Hayley Suviste, and Aisling Davis.

Wetlands/Floodlands - considering the man-made flood defences and its multi-species inhabitants, including the water boatman. Through physical touch of plant species of the site the sounds of different species and infrastructure are sent around the installation. Field recordings from Kersal Wetlands. Analogue images were taken and developed in a developer made from plant matter from the site. Lumen prints were created while recordings were taken in the water. Mare's tail tentacles floated in the water and triggered sounds.

Wetlands/Floodlands was further developed through input from the Createch program and performed at Beyond Conference 2025 at Media City. The sounds of the Water Boatman were brought to the forefront and through the mentoring the spatial audio of the piece was evolved. Rough Horsetail that is native to the habitat was connected and allowed for the audience to interact and contribute to the soundscape, engaging with the plants from the site to hear the different sounds of the species.
